A Pause For Year-End Reflections

We made it, guys! The year is almost over and a brand-new fresh year is right around the corner. That means, of course, that it’s traditionally the time to talk about goals (one of my favorite things!) but instead today we’re pausing to take time to reflect.

Reflection and personal introspection is a vital part of goals and life in general. It’s how we know who we are, where we’ve been, and what we want.

So here are some questions for us to ponder. Take some time to sit with them if you can. Pour yourself some hot coco and slow down for a few minutes. Journal if that’s your thing (and maybe even if it isn’t). Don’t rush ahead without thinking about where it is we are now.

We have a few weeks before January 1st comes along and gives us a blank calendar to fill in. For now let’s try to take a few breathes amongst the holiday busyness and pause to reflect.

Year-End Reflection Questions

  • What did I like about this past year?
  • What were my top 5-10 moments?
  • What is something I’m glad I did?
  • Who did I enjoy spending time with?
  • Who helped and encouraged me this year?
  • Who did I have the chance to help and encourage?
  • What was hard this past year?
  • What were 3-5 low moments?
  • What is something I wish I didn’t do?
  • Who has been a stressor in my life?
  • What would I like less of in the year ahead?
  • What would I like more of?
  • What was my focus last year?
  • Is that what I want to be focused on?
  • Where was I last year?
  • Where am I now?
  • Have I been kind to myself this year?
  • What am I grateful for?
  • What does joy look like for me right now?

There’s no right or wrong way to use these questions and there aren’t certain answers we’re supposed to be coming up with.

We’re just taking time to sit with where we’re at, to feel our bodies and our minds, and to be in the moment before the next year comes rushing in.

Where are you at today?

I came across this quote recently and it’s been a good reminder to me as I try to slow down for a few moments and rest before hurrying ahead to my goals and to-do lists.

Instead of finishing the year strong, why don’t we finish the year soft? Why don’t we finish the year restful and grateful for making it through another crazy cycle on Earth?

The Daily Rest

I hope wherever you’re at today, that you get a chance to slow down for a moment to rest and reflect.

In another couple weeks (before you know it!) I’ll be back here talking about goals. But in these last few days of the year, I’m going to try to embrace the quiet moments, carve out bits of stillness in the midst of chaos, and seek more gratefulness and softness.

Because in the grand scheme of things, those moments of quietness and rest may just be the most precious of all.
